Russia’s anti-doping agency RUSADA that was stripped of its international accreditation in 2015 after a doping scandal has been given partial approval by the World Anti-Doping Agency to plan and coordinate testing again under supervision.

WADA said in a statement on its official website that the anti-doping agency of Russia has now been authorized to run test under the supervision of WADA-appointed international experts and the British Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD), using its trained doping control officers (DCOs).

Accreditation of RUSADA was stripped after a report published in November 2015 accused the lab of systematically violating anti-doping regulations.

WADA President Craig Reedie said reinstatement of the Russian lab is a milestone towards the anti-doping agency of its accreditation although ‘there is still more to be done.’ ‘After much work by the Agency and its partners, resumption of testing represents an important step forward in rebuilding anti-doping in Russia,’ Reedie said in a statement. ‘We strongly encourage Russia to continue their efforts in the interest of clean athletes worldwide.’

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko welcomed the decision of WADA. Mutko said, ‘We are striving to create a strong, independent anti-doping agency which, I hope, will win the respect and recognition of its colleagues.’

Russia’s Olympic Committee chief Alexander Zhukov complimented the WADA decision. “The process of RUSADA reinstatement is important in the road map of the country’s Paralympic Committee and the track and field athletics federation,” said Russia’s Olympic Committee chief.
