It is becoming evident that there are many dietary supplements stemming everywhere and which actually contain unapproved pharmaceutical content. The US FDA recalled numerous supplements claiming to only have steroid-like content but actually contain anabolic steroids. Recently, Nutracoastal Trading LLC recalled two of their dietary supplements, STEAM and S-DROL, because the FDA discovered some pharmaceutical substance constituting both but were not listed on the product labels.
According to lab analysis conducted by the FDA, STEAM contains sulfoaidenafil, a drug similar to sildenafil, commonly distributed as Viagra. The S-DROL, on the other hand, contains desoxymethyltestosterone, a kind of steroid.
The main concern is the drug interaction with nitrate compounds. The drug interaction is dangerous because it could lower blood pressure to a hazardous level. Consumers with diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia), or heart disease are advised not to take these supplements since they are on nitroglycerin maintenance.
The FDA also issued a letter of warning to American Cellular Laboratories for their Xtreme supplements which were also found to contain synthetic steroids.
Products with steroids may cause liver damage, stroke, kidney failure and pulmonary embolism.
Customers who have these products and have experienced any unusual symptoms should discontinue use and consult their physician immediately.
