Nutritional company found to sell steroids over the internetLast Thursday, court issued a search warrant for the raid of the headquarters and warehouse of Bodybuilding.com in Boise, Idaho.

Bodybuilding.com is a nutritional company that sells supplements containing steroids and designer steroids. A substance found in the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative (BALCO) in 2003 was also found in their dietary supplement.

Dietary supplement makers are mostly self-regulatory unlike drug makers, which must demonstrate the effectiveness, and safety of their product before it could be approved for use by the public.

As part of the investigation, the Food and Drug Administration purchased 31 products from the said company. Tests showed that 26 out of 31 products contained steroids such as Madol, Tren, Superdrol, androstenedione, and Turinabol.

Reports of these dietary supplements containing steroids started last July when FDA received numerous complaints from men who developed acute liver and kidney failure after using dietary supplements. The first to be raided was the American Cellular Labs in San Francisco, the makers of Mass Xtreme and Tren Xtreme. Both products were found to contain steroids. After the raid, FDA issued a warning to the public regarding the use of nutritional supplements, which may contain steroids or steroid like substances.

From New York Times:

The nutrition company, BodyBuilding.com, is selling dietary supplements that contain steroids and designer steroids, including a substance found in the raid on the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative in 2003, the court papers said.
