Bargaining sessions continue between union and sports franchise ownersAccording to DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the NFL Players Association, he hopes that the union and the sport’s franchise owners would be ale to reach an agreement regarding their labor deal before next season to prevent any salary cap.

The union is still waiting to receive a formal labor proposal from store franchise owners. They are negotiating an extension of their collecting bargaining agreement, which is set to expire after the 2010 season.

However, according to Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, there is a great possibility that the 2010 season will start and end without a salary cap, if there would still be no progress in the labor negotiations.

Smith looks forward to the meeting and remains positive after six months in the job. He is greatly convinced that the fans love the game.

Aside from this present issue, the union and the league have been at odds lately due to the StarCaps issue.

Minnesota Viking players, Kevin and Pat Williams initially tested positive after using the weight loss supplement Starcaps.

The players and the union maintain their stand that NFL failed to properly warn them not to use the product Starcaps, despite receiving information that the supplement contained a banned substance to it.

According to Washington Post:

“I’m looking forward to hopefully receiving the first proposal from the league” Tuesday, Smith said in a conference call with reporters, expressing the hope that the two sides can agree to an extension of their labor deal before next season would be played without a salary cap.
