Team Astana has pulled the plug on its Continental team following a third doping positive. Artur Fedosseyev had tested positive for an anabolic androgenic steroids, according to an announcement by the UCI, the world governing body of cycling.

Astana Pro Cycling after llya Davidenok became the third rider to be banned for doping. Kazakh rider Davidenok returned a positive sample for the anabolic steroid Testosterone following a test at the Tour de l’Avenir on August 28. Maxim Iglinskiy tested positive for EPO on August 1 a day before he finished 26th at the Clasica San Sebastian, while 30-year-old Valentin Iglinskiy’s positive sample was taken on August 11 at the Enoco Tour.

The Kazakh Cycling Federation (KCF) announced that the second-division Continental team manager, Dmitri Sedoun, has been sacked and the Continental team has been suspended from competition. “The managing board of Kazakhstan Cycling Federation has decided to suspend the activity of the Astana Continental Team while an internal investigation into doping cases is carried out,” read a statement by the Kazakhstan Federation, which runs and manages the team. “Dmitri Sedoun, the general manager of Astana Continental team, has been dismissed from his position.”

Astana general manager Alexandre Vinokourov said he is confident the WorldTour Astana team will obtain a UCI license for the 2015 season. “The young riders are crazy if they still haven’t understood that there is no place for doping in cycling,” Vinokourov said.

“I want this to be a signal, a blast in their ear of our Federation. As we’ve often requested, the Kazakh Federation has to do more controls and be more severe. They’ve got our full support.

“People have to understand that they (the Continental team) has nothing to do with this team (the Astana WorldTour team). The only thing we have in common is the jersey and the name.”

In another development, UCI officials confirmed the License Commission would reveal the 2015 WorldTour licenses no later than December 10.
