The Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) has announced that Thiago Alves and Carlos Condit were not required to submit random, pre-fight drug tests prior to headlining Saturday’s show.

“We have not drug tested Carlos and Thiago yet; no ‘camp’ tests have been done for this event,” the Brazilian committee sanctioning UFC Fight Night 67 event inside Goiania Arena in Goiania expressed in a statement. “All fighters will be tested upon arrival at arena on fight night through urine – anabolic steroids, stimulants, diuretics/other masking agents and drugs of abuse.”

Many believe since the fight between Alves and Condit is not a massive pay-per-view event, the UFC has decided not to shell out money for extensive testing. However, it is not always the big name stars that cheat as lesser known fighters are more likely to use steroids to reach superstar status.

Condit (30-8 MMA, 7-4 UFC) defeated Alves when he snucked in an elbow that met an advancing Thiago Alves that caused a broken nose that forced a referee stoppage at the end of the second round.

In December 2006, Alves tested positive for Spironolactone, a banned diuretic, after his UFC 66 victory over Tony DeSouza. “Pitbull” was suspended eight months and fined $5,500 by the Nevada Athletic Commission. Alves (11-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) admitted that he used the drug to make weight of the fight that originally appeared on the night’s undercard. Alves, who made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 2, is Brazilian Muay Thai champion with a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
