List of Indian athletes on steroids has new names

Ashwini Akkunji, double gold medalist at last year’s Guangzhou Asiad, and Priyanka Pawar, a 400m runner, have tested positive in doping tests.
Both, Akkunji and Pawar, tested positive for the banned methandienone, an anabolic steroid.

A majority of steroid users are not athletes

Contrary to popular belief, most users of anabolic steroids are in their 20s and 30s, well-educated, and don’t even play sports.
This finding was disclosed in a survey of nearly 2,000 U.S. men who used anabolic steroids and also suggested that the majority began using the hormones as adults, and most were not motivated by sports.

Two busted for selling steroids

Isaac Harvey Haack and Rachel Irene Krusto, both 19, suspected of trafficking steroids were arrested in Nanaimo on the weekend.
The two were arrested in the Bowen Road Co-op parking lot at about 5 p.m. Saturday after undercover officers arranged for making a purchase from Haack and setting up the location.

Japanese wrestler receives doping ban

Katsuya Kitamura, a leading Greco-Roman Japanese wrestler, has been banned from competing for two years, after being found guilty of doping.
The ban means Kitamura is now out of next year’s London Olympics after he was banned by the Japan Anti-Doping Agency for testing positive to anabolic steroids.
